Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair
Nuits-Saint-Georges · domaine created 2001

The Liger-Belair name has been in the Nuits-Saint-Georges wine trade since the eighteenth century, through the négociant house C. Marey & Comte Liger-Belair. In 2001 Thibault Liger-Belair took back the family vines that had been let to sharecroppers and created his own domaine; 2002 was the first vintage. He was the first of the family to work as a vigneron rather than a merchant.
About nine hectares, farmed biodynamically since 2004: Richebourg Grand Cru, a half-hectare parcel on the southern part of the climat planted in 1931–1936; Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru in Les Baudes Basses; two hectares of Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Saint-Georges, the domaine's largest holding, planted in 1944; Vosne-Romanée Aux Réas; Nuits-Saint-Georges La Charmotte; and two Hautes-Côtes de Nuits parcels. Vineyards are ploughed by horse where possible. Fruit is sorted and mostly destemmed, with up to a third whole clusters in some years; new oak is kept to 40–50 per cent, no barrel older than three years, and the barrels are matched to each wine after fermentation.
The Richebourg yields a few hundred cases a year and is allocated; around 80 per cent of the domaine's production is exported. We hold full cases with documented provenance, in bond in France or in our Lisbon cellar, and source specific vintages on request.
