Few producers, especially in Madeira Wine, have experienced such a revolution in their history as Barbeito. To be a bulk wine supplier and suddenly become a benchmark in the Madeira Wine Region is a huge achievement, given the strong competition at the time.
It all happened in 1991, when Ricardo Freitas joined the family business and, together with the Japanese Kinoshita, decided to make Barbeito one of the most important producers of Madeira Wine.
In 1991, another important change took place at Barbeito: for the first time, a member of the family became responsible for the production of the wine. Two years after Ricardo joined the company, he carried out his first harvest without external supervision, thus creating the prospect of a working team in which all members share the same motto: to produce quality wines with their own style.
