The Azores archipelago, made up of nine islands, is located in the Atlantic Ocean, midway between the European and North American continents. The maritime influence leaves its mark on the Açores wine region, evident in consistent high rainfall and mild temperatures year-round. The volcanic origin of the very poor soils characterizes this unique terroir. Comprising three distinct appellations of origin -Graciosa, Biscoitos (on Ilha Terceira), and Pico - this region has a rich historical backdrop.
