Harlan Estate, now an American icon, produces this cuvée, which is considered one of the jewels of Napa Valley, one of California's most prestigious appellations. Inspired by his travels to Bordeaux, H. William Harlan established the estate in the 1980s. He found the volcanic soil to be ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The vines thrive on the mid-slope at altitudes ranging from 70 to 380 metres. They benefit from lower temperatures than in the surrounding area. Yields are low, and the vinification process involves particularly long ageing.
Tasting this wine dispels any clichés we may have about American wines being overly extracted and oaky. It offers a beautiful balance of fruity, spicy, empyreumatic and mineral notes. It is a great wine for ageing with a long finish.
