Maison Leroy was founded in 1868 in the small town of Auxey-Duresses. The company owes its success to Henry Leroy, who joined the family business in 1919. In 1942, he purchased a 50% stake in the Romanée-Conti vineyard (a joint venture that lasted until 1992), which the family continues to co-own with the Villaine family. Since 1955, the company has been led by Marcelle, known to everyone as Lalou. She recounts that her father placed a drop of Musigny on her lips at her birth. Between 1985 and 1989, with the aim of producing the finest wines, she purchased the Noëllat and Philippe Rémy vineyards with the help of her Japanese importer, thus establishing Domaine Leroy.
Today, Lalou-Bize Leroy is at the helm of an extraordinary wine estate covering 22.4 hectares across 24 appellations. She makes no compromises when it comes to viticulture: the vines are cultivated biodynamically and yields are extremely low. While the wines of the wine merchant are highly prized, the estate's wines have a veritable cult following as they embody the very best that Burgundy has to offer alongside DRC. The estate's reputation has spread far beyond France's borders, making its prestigious bottles very difficult to obtain.
