Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is one of the most prestigious white wine appellations in the Burgundy region of France, located in the Côte de Beaune within the communes of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. Part of the prestigious group of Montrachet Grand Crus, Bâtard-Montrachet is renowned for producing some of the finest Chardonnay wines in the world. Situated just below the famous Le Montrachet Grand Cru, the vineyard benefits from a unique terroir characterised by a mix of limestone and clay soils, with a higher clay content contributing to the richness and roundness of the wine. Bâtard-Montrachet wines are known for their power, full-bodied character and opulence, with a complex bouquet of ripe fruit such as apple, pear and citrus, along with notes of honey, nuts and sometimes a hint of spice or vanilla from the oak. On the palate, these wines are broad and creamy, with vibrant acidity balancing their richness, leading to a long, satisfying finish. They have excellent aging potential and develop further complexity over time. Bâtard-Montrachet remains highly prized and is one of the most sought-after and expensive white wines in the world, embodying the exceptional terroir and craftsmanship of Burgundy.
