Nicolau de Almeida Monte Xisto Orbita 2019

Monte Xisto Órbita is a unique red wine from the Douro, a blend of Touriga Nacional (70%) and other varieties (30%) from different parcels of land around Quinta do Monte Xisto. This careful composition, with varying exposure to the sun, aims to highlight a less extracted, subtle expression, while retaining the complexity, structure and elegance typical of the estate's terroir.
The grapes are harvested by hand and transported in 20kg crates to ensure quality, while fermentation takes place in cement vats with indigenous yeasts for a natural profile. The wine is aged for 18 months in both cement vats and 600-litre barrels in Vila Nova de Gaia, where the proximity of the sea provides ideal temperature and humidity conditions for a refined, nuanced ageing process.
