Espera Curtimenta 2023

"Espera", which means "wait" in English, is the foundation of Rodrigo Martins' winemaking philosophy. He uses this concept to harmonise his vineyards and wines with nature. Located in the Alcobaça region, north of Lisbon, Rodrigo's 5 hectare organic vineyard is planted with indigenous grape varieties, including the renowned Touriga Nacional. Rodrigo does not adhere to a fixed élevage for his cuvées, treating each vintage individually and giving the wine as much time as it needs. This approach ensures that the wines truly reflect the character of each vintage. Alcobaça is famous for its large population of Cistercian monks who have been making wine for many generations. Rodrigo draws inspiration from their historic winemaking practices to influence his own methods. His wines offer a true insight into the terroir of Alcobaça and the rich history that defines the region.
