In the crafting of Quinta Várzea da Pedra Reserva, a meticulous winemaking process unfolds. The grapes undergo traditional fermentation in stone mills with the age-old practice of treading, contributing to the wine's distinct character. Following this, the wine embarks on a 12-month ageing journey in French oak barrels, adding layers of complexity and refinement to the final product.
The vineyard's location, influenced by the Atlantic climate and shaped by the mesoclimate of the Serra do Montejunto and the Óbidos Lagoon, plays a pivotal role in shaping the grapes' characteristics. Hand-harvesting is conducted with precision, utilising 10kg boxes, and the grapes undergo total destemming. The fermentation process takes place in lagares with traditional foot treading, preserving the authentic winemaking traditions.
To further enhance its nuances, the wine matures for an extended 24-month period in used French oak barrels, allowing it to develop depth and sophistication. Quinta Várzea da Pedra Reserva is a testament to the harmonious marriage of traditional winemaking methods, terroir influence and careful ageing, resulting in a wine that reflects the essence of its unique origin.
