António Madeira started out with nothing - no vineyard, no winery and not even a small plot of land. However, he possessed an immense sense of pride that comes with being born in one place but feeling a strong sense of belonging to another. A Parisian lad with Portuguese roots in the Dão region, António had always felt a deep connection to his heritage. In his younger days, he would visit the family land without giving the wine or grape harvest a second thought.
He formed a wine-tasting club with his colleagues and started to learn more and more about this liquid gold. In 2010, he began producing wine in the region and, by 2016, had permanently relocated to the Dão to tend to the abandoned vines of local farmers.
António Madeira's vineyards are a hidden treasure trove in the easternmost part of the Dão region. With its continental climate and granite soil, it's no wonder he believes the Dão region has the potential to produce wines that age like fine art. However, it's not only the climate and soil that make his wines special; it's also his passion for winemaking.
