Since 1908, the Vinho Verde region, encompassing nine sub-regions—Monção/Melgaço, Lima, Cávado, Ave, Basto, Sousa, Amarante, Baião, Paiva—has been a key player in wine production within the historic Entre-Douro-e-Minho province. The climate, shaped by Atlantic winds, yields moderate temperatures, limited sunlight, and ample rainfall—ideal for viticulture. Geologically, the region is predominantly granitic, with two narrow tracks—a Silurian path and a schist one—crossing in a NW-SE direction, contributing to the unique terroir that influences the character of the wines produced here.
