The Serra de Montejunto in Lisbon is home to Castelão vines planted in 2006 and oriented north and south. The Bairrada region is home to Baga vines planted in 1972 and oriented north. The soils are clay-limestone.
The grapes undergo stem fermentation with indigenous yeasts in 1000-litre vats, after which they are pressed and aged in old 2000-litre barrels for 11 months.
2023 was a very good year on the Atlantic coast. The warmer winter meant that the vegetative cycle started earlier, but the balanced spring and summer meant that the two short periods of warmer days in August were well endured. The traditional September rain allowed for a good ripening cycle, resulting in wines with good acidity that combine fluidity and seriousness, and phenolic ripeness at its best.
