Thyro came into existence as if born of an act of love, nestled in the quaint village of Barrô along the Douro River, precisely within the domains of Quinta de Vilarinho and Quinta da Enxertada in São Martinho de Mouros. It is the fruit of the unwavering determination of Maria Teresa Vieira Cardoso, the mother of João Lopes. The narrative revolves around the preservation of origins, memories and aspirations - all of which find expression in every nuance of the Thyro brand.
Upon her retirement, Maria Teresa, along with her son João Lopes, embarked on the venture to breathe new life into the family estates. Initially, João juggled his time between the bustling city life of Lisbon and the demanding rural existence. However, in 2019, he made the definitive choice to settle in the countryside. The lands, once belonging to his grandfather, Mário Cardoso, were once again revitalised and inhabited, fulfilling their purpose of safeguarding the family legacy.
