"Pet Nat" is derived from the French term "Pétillant naturel," translating to "naturally sparkling." This designation signifies a semi-sparkling or sparkling wine crafted without the artificial induction of a second fermentation, a common practice in contemporary sparkling wine production. Instead, in the "méthode ancestral" or "traditional method," the wine is bottled during its initial fermentation, sealed under pressure, naturally enriching it with carbon dioxide.
While the traditional method is the oldest form of sparkling wine production, it experienced a revival when the natural wine movement embraced it, transforming it into the latest trend. Pet Nats, as they are affectionately called, have become a prominent and well-loved feature of today's wine landscape. It's worth noting that whilst Pet Nats are widespread, the rosé version, as exemplified in this case, is not as commonly encountered, adding a distinctive and sought-after dimension to this style of wine.
