Vitor Claro's transition from chef to full-time winemaker stemmed from his passion for what he calls "liquid happiness". Inspired by meetings with oenophiles, Vitor eventually made his way to the Serra de São Mamede in northern Alentejo. There he found old-vine vineyards on schist soils at an altitude of 750 metres, a colourful mix of local grape varieties such as Alicante Bouschet, Tinta Francesa, Moreto, Castelão and Trincadeira. Attracted by the region's potential for freshness, he saw an opportunity to build his vision from the ground up, creating a terroir-focused project he named Dominó.
His wife, Rita, became his indispensable partner, bringing energy and organisation to their shared mission of making fresh, honest wines that stand apart from the Alentejo mainstream. Together, they are committed to low-intervention winemaking that preserves a lighter, more approachable Alentejo character. Since 2015, Vitor and Rita have expanded into other regions, experimenting with Colmeal in Beira Interior, Las Vedras near Lisbon and, most recently, Carcavelos. Guided by Vitor's culinary instincts, their wines reflect both authenticity and creativity, appealing to those seeking an alternative expression of Portuguese terroir.
