Quilómetro's essence is woven from the grapes of two time-honoured vineyards nestled near the Douro River, the pioneers of the 2019 harvest. This wine boasts a distinctive character derived from a captivating blend of red and white grapes, composing approximately 70% and 30% of the varietals, respectively.
The meticulous process commenced with hand-harvesting, followed by the ancient tradition of whole bunch foot-treading in a traditional stone lagar. Here, amongst fermentation and maceration, the grapes underwent a transformative four-day journey. The pressing phase introduced a deliberate separation of wine fractions. The free-run, guided solely by gravity, eschewed additional press-induced extractions, maintaining the integrity and purity of the juice.
Post-separation, the liberated wine found its sanctuary in three barrels, where its distinct fractions could express themselves authentically. These three barrels harmoniously converge to create Quilómetro, a wine that serves as a testament to the unadulterated, refined, and delicate facets that venerable vineyards can unveil..
