The Petrus 2013 vintage was bottled in June 2015. For a 2013 vintage, it has an exceptionally deep colour, and is very clear and lucid. The aroma is undeniably attractive, unfolding smoothly with notes of black cherries, iodine, potpourri and a hint of blueberry. The aromas are soft and unpretentious yet unmistakably Pomerol and Petrus. The palate is medium-bodied, and for a 2013 vintage it is certainly well structured, with tannins providing a grainy mouthfeel. Currently, it feels saline and fresh in the mouth with no sign of greenness. It is a successful wine in the context of the 2013 vintage, and I appreciated the crispness of its "clinical" finish. It does not have much persistence, exiting quickly and smoothly. It is certainly not the best Petrus ever produced, but it is undoubtedly better than previous vintages such as 1986 and 1996.
