The Bimbaches were the indigenous people of El Hierro, the smallest and westernmost of the Canary Islands. Following the Spanish conquest in 1405, the local inhabitants were sold as slaves a few years later. However, it is also the name of one of Spain's most inspiring wine projects in recent years. Rayco Fernández, who is also known for his work on the 'Puro Rofe' project in Lanzarote, is a local wine distributor in Gran Canaria with an in-depth understanding of the potential and future of the islands' vineyards. In El Hierro, there are not many hectares of vineyards left. Along the steep northern slope of the island, in particular, few winemakers are willing to take the plunge. Yields are often too low to justify the investment. Rayco took the plunge, and his wines have since become a household name. Bimbache wines are unique and truly Atlantic.
