This wine is a blend of Castelão and Alicante Bouschet from the historic vineyards of Moreiras Grandes in Ourém, where the 50-year-old vines are rooted in the region's limestone soils. The result is a wine that balances tradition and craftsmanship, highlighting the potential of these varieties. Winemaking process Grape varieties: A blend of Castelão and Alicante Bouschet, showing the richness of the terroir.
Vinification: Part of the grapes were vinified on the skins, adding structure and complexity.
The other part was vinified without the stems, enhancing the fruit expression.
Ageing: The wine matured for 15 months in used 228 L barrels, which softened the tannins and integrated the flavours while preserving the freshness.
Vintage characteristics: Despite sunburn in mid-July, which resulted in some partially dried (passified) grapes, the year was productive and balanced, with concentrated and expressive fruit.
Tasting notes Nose: Notes of ripe red and black fruits, intertwined with hints of dried fig, subtle spice and earthy undertones.
Palate: Medium bodied with a well structured frame. The inclusion of partially dried grapes adds a touch of sweetness and depth, balanced by vibrant acidity and fine tannins.
Finish: Long and harmonious with a lingering mineral character. This wine reflects the resilience of the vineyard and the winemaker's ability to create a balanced, complex expression despite the challenges of the vintage. Perfect with roast meats or mature cheeses.
